Hurricane Sandy
The worst of the hurricane has past now, so it is time to rebuild and move forward. First Care would like to wish you and your family a speedy recovery during these trying times. That is why in this week’s blog we would like to share some helpful tips on recovering from damages to your business’ and homes caused by Hurricane Sandy:If you have insurance that will cover your damages, contact your agent immediately. The longer you wait, the worse off you will be. Make sure you survey any damage; it’s important to make note of any broken windows, flooding, or safety hazards such as: live wires, leaking gas or flammable liquids, poisonous gases, and damage to foundations or underground piping. If you see any of these things notify the appropriate utility companies or emergency responders immediately. Photographing all of these damages can help you keep an accurate account of the situation at hand. Be sure to save receipts for replacement items or repair work. Of course, before you enter a severely damaged building or house, make sure that local authorities have deemed it safe to do so.
Dry out all areas and items quickly and thoroughly to prevent mold growth. If you don’t dry items/areas up as quickly as possible, it could become yet another economic burden for you in the long run. Begin to salvage personal property as soon as possible to prevent further damage; cover broken windows and torn roof coverings immediately. Separate damaged things from undamaged things, but beware of accumulating too much combustible debris inside of a building or house. I know this seems almost impossible, but time and time again we have seen the human race step up to the plate, rebuild, and reinvent themselves. So we are very certain that you will be able to do so as well.
