Why is water important?

There are many things that function great when used with water.  Since water has a million and one uses, like in a water park for fun, sewage system to get rid of our waste, to put out fires for our safety and the most important use of water is for you to drink it. Water is so vital to the human body that we would perish without it. The human body can last a few weeks without eating but can only last a few days without water.  I’m sure that has something to do with the fact that our body is made up of about 70% of water.
Water serves many functions within our body as written by F. Batmanghelidj, MD, who highlights some main benefits of keeping your body well hydrated in his book titled “Water for Health, for Healing, for Life”:
·         Water being the main lubricant in joints, helps prevent arthritis and back pain.
·         Water increases efficiency of the immune system
·         Water prevents the clogging of arteries in the heart and brain, thus reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke.
·         Water is needed to efficiently manufacture neurotransmitters in the brain, including serotonin and melatonin (for hormones). It also improves are attention span, and can prevent attention deficit disorder (ADD).
·         Water prevents memory loss as we age, reducing the risk of degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
·         Water reduces the effects of aging, making our skin smoother and giving is a sparkling luster.

If water can provide such benefits, can you imagine all the things that can go wrong within the human body without it? Due to the lack of proper hydration the human body will ration its remaining water to protect your vital organs, which are the heart, kidneys, brain, lungs, and liver. This will affect your non-vital organs, causing them to suffer which will eventually cause you to suffer.
The lack of water may cause:
·         Arthritis and joints pain
·         High blood pressure
·         Water retention
·         Digestive and heart burn problems
·         Memory loss
·         Dizziness and/or blur vision
·         And most important - Dehydration
Warning signs usually show up in your skin, joints and gastrointestinal tract. So be sure to drink plenty of water to help keep you properly hydrated and healthy.
